Urge your representatives in Congress to support Child Nutrition Promotion and School Lunch Protection, a bill that would improve the nutritional quality of school foods.

Support The School Reform Bill

The Child Nutrition Promotion and School Lunch Protection Act would require the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to update the nutrition standards for foods sold  in schools so that they conform with current nutrition science and address threats to child health and nutrition at school. You can help to improve school lunches by supporting this bill. Simply follow the two easy steps below.

We are aiming to get as many supporters as we can and we appreciate your support.

Why Should I Support This Bill?

  • School meals must meet nutritional standards in order for a school food service program to receive federal subsidies, but foods sold individually outside the meal programs (through vending machines, school snack bars, and a la carte lines) are not required by the USDA to meet comparable nutritional standards.
  • In short, the USDA has limited authority to set meaningful nutritional standards for junk foods sold on public school property.
  • The sale of unhealthy snack foods and sodas in schools undermines the federal $8.5 billion annual investment in these programs.

FACT: 17% of American children are overweight.

FACT: A single 12-ounce can of soda has as much as 13 teaspoons of sugar in the form of high-fructose corn syrup.
